boy next door → lee taemin/kim jongin (kai); pg-13; kai's dream girl isn't what she seems...

a/n: first and foremost i want to thank owlus and slapstickhero
for putting up with my incessant whining (it really is a part of my writing
process lol), and killing inspiring me with taemin's nipples and parts of kai's
body i will not mention here. before you all go raving about the one liner involving
chen, that was all unnir (aka slapstick) so you have her to thank. \o///

other than that, this chapter was a bitch to write. :| i don't even know. kai and
sehun wouldn't stop discussing their feelings. hence i didn't manage to get to
where i wanted. still, hopefully it entertains you all~

Sehun loved spring break. He loved the idleness of it, the way he could wear the same pajamas for days, or play video games whenever he wanted; he could even eat his secret stash of junk food when his mom was away at work during the day.

Being an honor roll student was tough and he earnestly cherished moments like this – moments when he could just rest. The ten page essays and all-night formula memorizing sessions would come, but for now there was just Sehun, his bed, and the teddy bear Luhan had won him at a summer festival last year. So why, for the love of everything good, was Kai calling him in the middle of the goddamn night?

Rolling over, Sehun pulled his thick comforter over his head to try and quell the noise of his ringtone; but when the second cycle of rings began he knew Kai wasn’t going to let this go. Grunting, he rolled over onto his stomach, a messy head of brown hair sticking out from under his blanket like an abnormality in the fabric as he rested his chin on his pillow and blinked open slim, bleary eyes.

Snatching his phone from where it sat vibrating itself off the edge of his dresser, Sehun unlocked it and squinted at the time, the brightness of the screen filling his whole room with a faint blue glow – 3:34AM.

Sighing, Sehun brought the phone up to his ear and toyed irritably with the corner of his pillow.

“You do realize you’re calling me at three in the morning. Me, Sehun. You get that don’t you, Kai?” He said trying to sound threatening because Kai knew that when his favorite activity was in progress he was not to be interrupted. However, as soon as the words left his mouth he was yawning and he knew he must have sounded more lethargic than anything else.

“That’s what best friends are for.” Kai answered matter of factly.

Sehun rolled his eyes and sat up, the covers slipping down until they pooled around his hips that were clad in nothing but checkered boxer shorts.

“Fine. You have five seconds to give me a good reason I shouldn’t hang up on you and go back to sleep.”

When all he was met with was reluctant silence, Sehun raised an eyebrow as if the other could see it.

“Good night, Kai-"

“No wait!” Came the said boy’s voice from the other end of the line, making Sehun pause. His usual low drawl sounded almost frantic. More silence and then finally, seeming very small, Kai said, “What…what would you say if…”

Sehun propped an elbow on his knee and put his chin in his palm, wondering what could be ailing his usually aloof friend this late at night. “Hm?”

“…if I was gay?”

The smallest of smirks touched Sehun’s lips.

“I would say Chen owes me five bucks.”

“Sehun,” Kai’s voice came through the line, low and a little pleading. “Please tell me you’re not serious.”

Despite knowing his best friend couldn’t see him, the brunette shrugged a noncommittal shoulder and then did what every good friend did – dodged the question. “So you’re for real then. Was it love at first sight?”

“No!” A pause. “…yes. It’s just, he’s gorgeous, Sehun. Prettier than any girl I’ve ever seen, ever. And his hair smells like warm vanilla and he has the cutest eye smile and I just-"

“Woah there,” Sehun said, picking at a thread on his shirt, unable to help the smile that crossed his angular face. It was rare to hear Kai this worked up about anything, much less a love interest, and admittedly it was kind of endearing. “Slow down, Romeo. Let’s start with his name first.”

“Taemin.” Kai said sitting on the edge of his bed, leaning back a little as the name triggered his memory of the boy. Those long legs, that tiny waist, and those lips…what he wouldn’t give to have those lips wrapped around his-

“…length?”

Kai’s eyebrows nearly took off from his forehead they raised so high. “What?!”

“You know,” Sehun continued, sounding confused. “Is he taller than you?”

“Oh,” Kai mumbled, blushing hotly as realization washed over him. Suddenly he was glad Sehun wasn’t actually in the room with him. “No, shorter.”

“I see…” For whatever reason, Sehun sounded serious and that made Kai’s palms sweat. He didn’t like where this was going. “So then you’re the one that…”

“The one that what?”

He could practically hear the suggestive (not to mention amused) eyebrow raise in Sehun’s response.

“Tops?”

Kai, though he would never admit it, let out a girlish squeak at the thought, wringing his hands anxiously in his lap as he balanced his cell phone between his shoulder and ear. “Er, I’m still not really I sure I could do that with a guy…”

The contemplative silence that ensued had Kai letting out of wistful sigh. Of course he found Taemin attractive, of course he had the urge to kiss him and touch him, but his mind never really registered anything that could possibly be lurking below his waist in those fantasies. And just the thought of that made Kai feel a little apprehensive and, admittedly, a little sick. Wasn’t it wrong, after all, to go there with a guy?

“No choice then,” Sehun’s voice cut in, bringing Kai out of his tense reverie. “I guess you’re just going to have to test it.”

“With Taemin? But I just met the guy less than 24 hours ago.” Kai replied sounding incredulous.

“So what? He’s a guy, you’re a guy.” Sehun reasoned like that made it any less impossible. “That means you can skip the romancing part and get to the real fun.”

Kai was pensive. “I don’t think…”

“Trust me, I’ve see his type before. All cute and innocent looking right? The next thing you know you’re wrists are bound by your own belt and your pants are half way across the room.”

Sehun sounded kind of bitter and Kai furrowed his eyebrows, wondering where his friend was going with this.

“Uhm…”

The sound of a throat awkwardly clearing on the other end of the line and then Sehun was continuing. “The point is, he knows what he wants and he knows how to get it. You just have to give him the green light.”

“How?”

“Invite him over for a game of go fish or something?”

Kai resisted the urge to smack himself in the head. Why did he even bother? “Go fish. Really, Sehun? That’s your brilliant seduction plan?”

“What!” Sehun was defensive. “The game’s innocent enough. He’ll never see it coming.”

Kai paused and pursed his lips. “…see what coming?”

“You know, the part where you jump his bones.” The other replied breezily, as if it was obvious.

Kai sounded exasperated even over the phone. “I can’t just-"

“Or,” Sehun continued as if he had never been interrupted. “Spend your whole life wondering what it would be like to be with him. Your choice.”

A sigh so heavy it could sink the titanic before finally the dark haired boy gave against his better conscience. “…Fine, but if this backfires on me, you are so dead.”

And then Kai hung up.
